Our Enrichment Walks

Exploration Walks

  • 25-35 minutes long
  • 5 hour service window 10:30am-3:30pm, based on your location and the location of the best exploration areas
  • For dogs who want to enjoy any safe area of his/her choosing
  • Designed to trigger and fulfill the seeking and consummation systems within the dog
  • Also known as a “Sniff Walk,” a long leash will be used to allow the dog to lead and explore
  • If desired, a basket muzzle, which allows the dog to pant and drink water, can be used to protect the dog from grabbing or ingesting anything it may find during the walk
  • Scent games, “Find It,” fetch, food puzzles and other enrichment activities can be incorporated
  • We do not go to public dog parks to avoid exposure to common parasites and off leash dogs we do not know
  • Assumed to be solo, but can be paired by request, based on availability
  • For dogs older than 4 months
  • Best paired with our Montessori School program

Exercise Walks

  • 30-45 minutes long
  • 5 hour service window 10:30am-3:30pm, based on your location and the location of the best exercise areas
  • This walk can be a run/jog on a leash, with minimal exploration for the dog
  • Exercise helps release endorphins and opioids in the brain, promoting an overall feeling of wellbeing
  • Perfect for energetic dogs who need exercise
  • Games like fetch and tug can be played using a long line leash, to encourage exercise 
  • Assumed to be solo, but can be paired by request, based on availability
  • For dogs older than 4 months to approximately 12 years
  • Best paired with our Montessori School program

Specialty Services

Puppy Socialization Visits

  • 25-35 minutes long
  • 1 hour service window between 10-11am and 3-4pm
  • For puppies 8 weeks to 4 months who may not be fully vaccinated and can’t get through a full day without relief
  • Offered exclusively by staff who are certified in fear and force free puppy socialization
  • Customizable to focus on a puppy’s particular needs and living situation 
    • Change puppy pads 
    • Hand Feed
    • Enrichment games and activities
    • Work on name recognition
    • Work on harness desensitization and leash manners
    • Practice coming and going to avoid separation anxiety
    • Safely socialize the puppy to all things “new” in the world using our fear and force free practices

Senior and Disabled TLC Visits

  • 25-35 minutes long
  • 5 hour service window between 1030am-330pm, at a time based on your location
  • Customizable to focus on a senior or disabled dog’s particular needs and living situation 
    • Taking the time needed to make it enjoyable for them
    • Helping those who have difficulty with stairs
    • Slow Pacing
    • Enrichment games and activities that are compatible with any impairments or restrictions they have
  • Solo 
  • For dogs 12 years + and those with physical impairments such as wheelchairs or chronic conditions such as arthritis 
  • If the dog requires lifting, it must be less than 50lbs

Training Walk

  • 45 minutes long
  • 5-hour service window between 10:30 am-3:30 pm, at a time based on your location and scheduling preferences
  • Session is done by a Training Apprentice and is a continuation of your private training sessions to achieve your training goals. The apprentice will continue training by following the trainer’s instructions and protocols to ensure your dog is reinforced in the same manner to achieve the desired behaviors. Our training apprentices are in the process of becoming certified dog trainers and are qualified to follow instructions and execute training techniques and protocols to ensure there’s a seamless transition from private training to real-world walks. These go perfectly to continue on-leash reactive behaviors, loose leash walking, and all basic manner training!

Meet the Founder

About Patrick

Patrick founded Patrick's Pet Care in March 2012 as a dog walking company in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC. His values for operating a pet care business are based on a genuine love of animals, a commitment to do the right thing, and a personal approach to meeting the needs of all the animals and people who depend on Patrick's Pet Care. A core pillar of this philosophy is a firm belief in corporate social responsibility standards. Patrick believes all employees deserve to be paid a District of Columbia living wage, receive health insurance coverage, and paid time off in order to provide the best care to our clients. Fundamentally, Patrick aims to create thriving relationships between people and their canine companions, using science and consent based methods without fear, pain or force.

Patrick is a certified force free dog trainer, certified fear free dog groomer, and a Certified Professional Animal Care Operator (CPACO).

New Customers

Enrichment Walk Basic Requirements:

  • Completed New Customer Intake Form
  • Valid DC Dog License
  • Age: 8 weeks +
  • Vaccinations (Puppies <20 weeks): 1st round of Distemper, Parvovirus, Bordetella
  • Vaccinations (All Dogs >20 weeks): Rabies; DHPP / DAPP; and Bordetella
  • Free, Scheduled 15 Minute Virtual Orientation to Your Home + optional “Meet your Specialist”
